GS1 has a data model for the fashion industry containing fields that suppliers can use to share (basic) product data with their customers.
The data model is based on Global Product Classification (GPC): the international GS1 standard to classify products into categories. With this classification, specific attributes (data fields) are linked to a specific product.
International working group launched
This data model is currently being developed for international use, including for the Digital Product Passport. In collaboration with international companies, GS1 is working in a dedicated working group — the GS1 DPP Circularity Mission Specific Working Group (MSWG) — to make the data model suitable for practical implementation.
The group officially launched on 27 May 2026. Solution providers, trade associations, and fashion and textile companies are invited to join.
A chance to help shape implementation
Many of the practical details that will define DPP in apparel are still being developed. This creates a window for industry participation.
Businesses that engage now can contribute to defining the data, approaches and standards that will underpin DPP implementation across the sector.
The GS1 DPP Circularity Mission Specific Working Group sub-team for textiles and apparel provides a practical forum for that work to happen, giving organisations across the value chain an opportunity to collaborate on the challenges ahead.
