Getting started
Below the steps required for suppliers and retailers to use GS1 Fashion Base are listed.
Suppliers
Signing up
- Sign up on the GS1 website.
- GS1 sends a confirmation of your application.
- GS1 explains the process of the connection process.
- Pay the invoice.
Intake and tests
- You receive an invitation for an intake with Icecat (data pool supplier).
- After your intake, select a file format (CSV, XML of JSON) and connection type (web interface, FTP, API).
- Start producing import files and fill these using dummy products.
- Provide these import files to Icecat and receive their feedback (which will be a loop until things are correct).
- After import files are approved you receive log in details for the (test) environment.
- Set op your internal data flow so import files may be filled automatically for a large volume of products.
- Upload the files yourself in the web interface for testing.
Uploading and publishing data
- When large-volume testing has been successfully completed, you will receive the log on details for the production environment.
- GS1 arranges the selected connection type (FTP or API).
- Upload your data and select whether to publish to all retailers or specific ones only.
Retailers

- After your intake, select a file format (CSV, XML of JSON, Icecat live).
Set up an account
- Provide your IP-address to Icecat.
- Icecat sets up your account.
Using files
- Download files.
- Import files into your system.
