Use the Global Service Relation Number (GSRN) in a barcode on a wristband or employee pass, this enables you to register the products used for the patient in the electronic patient file (EPD) and hospital information system (ZIS).
A GSRN is structured as follows:
A GSRN consists of 18 digits.
The Application Identifier (AI) for a service supplier (a nurse) is 8071, for the service recipient (a patient) this is 8018.
Next is the company number you have been assigned by GS1. Your company number may contain 7, 9, 10 or 11 digits (depending on the size of the package you purchased).
Next, encode your relations (your patient relations as well as your employee relations may receive a relation number). Number relations from 00….. through 99…..
The 18th digit is a control digit.
The code (8018)871234567890000004 is made up as follows:
(8018) is the patient’s Application Identifier (AI).
The first 9 digits make up your company number 871234567.
Assign the sequence 89000000 to a patient relation.
The final digit (4) is the control digit.
In some cases it may be useful to register patient (treatment) details in more detail. You may use the Service Relation Instance Number (SRIN) for this purpose. The barcode will contain both GSRN and SRIN and enables to scan both the patient and the moment care is provided. This facilitates, for example recording multiple laboratory sample collection moments.
